Plan your business
Make an impact on the community
As an entrepreneur, you sometimes see solutions that can help your community, whether the focus is on vulnerable groups or protecting the Aruban flora and fauna. Entrepreneurs can offer solutions for their community while making a profit, or non-profit NGOs can become more sustainable by being more entrepreneurial.

Corporate social responsibility
A company can take different initiatives to make an impact on the community:
- general donations;
- organizing volunteer activities for the employees of the company;
- using ethically produced products;
- financing a promotional campaign that is related to a good cause;
- donating to a charitable organization based on products sold; or
- financing a behavior change campaign.
Social entrepreneurship
How can I become a social entrepreneur?;
- by using innovation to respond to social needs and by using my financial resources and/or another type of resources of my business model, without any profit (break-even);
- by using the profit of some of my commercial activities to support operations that have a social or community purpose;
- by designing a company that brings about a social change and is profitable.
Everything you should know about SDGs
In September 2015, 193 countries adopted the Global Goals for Sustainable Development, today called the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), at a historic UN Summit. In the new agreement entitled “Transforming our World: The 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development”, 17 SDGs and 169 targets were agreed on to achieve three extraordinary things in the next 15 years: to eradicate extreme poverty, to fight inequality and injustice and to fix climate change.
As part of the Dutch Kingdom, Aruba also voluntarily committed to this agreement in 2015, as these global SDGs are in line with the Aruban vision and policy. Therefore, creating awareness of sustainability is an important step to implement the SDGs and government policies.
To implement and monitor the SDGs, including targets and indicators, specific policies and strategies were identified and proposed in Aruba’s first SDG Roadmap, “A Roadmap for SDG Implementation in Aruba”, which was drafted in the year 2017 following the MAPS (Mainstreaming, Acceleration, Policy, Support) mission of the UN Development Group (UNDP) in Aruba.
The National SDG Commission, established in January 2017, coordinates the implementation process and reporting on the SDGs. This Commission is responsible for creating awareness of the SDGs within the public sector, private sector, NGOs, academia and civil society.
